Delicious Elderflower & White Tea Recipe!
White tea, green tea and black tea are made from the same plant, Camellia sinensis.
However, it’s the different picking and processing methods that gives them the unique aromas, flavours, and medicinal benefits. In the case of white tea, its leaves and buds are harvested just before they are fully open, when they are totally covered in fine, white hairs. This is where white tea adopts its name (Quantification of total polyphenols, catechin, caffeine, L-theanine, determination of antioxidant activity and effect on antileishmanial drugs of ethiopian tea leaves extracts. Alemu Tadesse, Ariaya Hymete and Salahuddin Farooq Mohammed).
In addition to all the benefits listed for green tea, white tea also has more of the powerful natural antioxidant compounds to protect our skin collagen from the effects of ageing – both internally and externally (Anti-collagenase, anti-elastase and anti- oxidant activities of extracts from 21 plants, Tamsyn S A Thring et al. BMC Complement Altern Med. 2009).
PS Organic White Iced Tea also contains the added benefits of elderflower, which is one of the highest in the antioxidant flavonoid quercetin, which has shown to reduce inflammation, enhance immunity and combat ageing (Short-term High Dose of Quercetin and Resveratrol Alters Aging Markers in Human Kidney Cells. Fatemeh Abharzanjani et al. Int J Prev Med. 2017).
